English-Only Cheesesteak Joint Warned by City
Philly Commission Says Policy Is Discriminatory

PHILADELPHIA - An English-only ordering policy at one of the city's most famous cheesesteak joints drew a warning Monday from officials who threatened to file a discrimination complaint.

The city's Commission on Human Relations planned to argue that the policy at Geno's Steaks discourages customers of certain backgrounds from eating there, said Rachel Lawton, acting executive director.

Geno's owner Joseph Vento posted two small signs at his shop in south Philadelphia proclaiming: "This is AMERICA: WHEN ORDERING 'PLEASE SPEAK ENGLISH.'

Lawton said that violates the city's Fair Practices Ordinance, which prohibits discrimination in employment, public accommodation and housing. "It's discouraging patronage by non-English speaking customers because of their national origin or ancestry," Lawton said.

It does no such thing. This is America and we speak English here. If you don't, that's your problem.

My friend Wally, who is from South Philly, says "people come from all over the world to Philly for a Cheesesteak." Wally knows, so now I ask you, how many languages are there in the world? Should Geno's be required to have a staff member that speaks every language known to man, or does common sense dictate you order in English? I would also say, if you don't speak English, then it is doubtful you read English, so the sign would not offend you and would then be a moot point, would it not? What is even more stupid is that he doesn't say you have to speak English he says "This is AMERICA: WHEN ORDERING 'PLEASE SPEAK ENGLISH."' Wait, is south Philadelphia in the United States? It must be, I saw it in a Rocky movie.

Group Sues KFC Over Unhealthy Cooking Oil

A U.S. consumer group sued the operator of the KFC fried chicken restaurant chain on Tuesday to try and force it to stop it from frying foods in an artery-clogging fat.

CSPI Executive Director Michael Jacobson said it was harder to avoid trans fat at KFC than at other fast-food restaurants.

"Trans fat is almost everywhere on this menu. By frying in such a dangerous oil, KFC is making its unsuspecting consumers' arteries Extra Crispy," he said, referring to a version of fried chicken sold by KFC.

OK OK I have discussed in my previous posts the government telling me what and how to eat. Is there anyone out there that doesn't know it is called fast food - not cheap, not healthy food? Have we all become stupid and have to have everything spelled out for us? Oh wait, if it is spelled out I am stupid and can't read!!!!!!!!!!!

Coffee May Protect Liver From Alcohol, Study Says

In a study of more than 125,000 people, one cup of coffee per day cut the risk of alcoholic cirrhosis by 20 percent. Four cups per day reduced the risk by 80 percent. Of course, there is a better way to avoid alcoholic cirrhosis of the liver, Klatsky said.

"The way to avoid getting ill is not to drink a lot of coffee, but to cut down on the drinking" of alcohol.

Finally a report that makes sense. The way I see it is you mix the alcohol with the coffee. If 1 cup reduces the risk by 20% and 4 cups reduces it by 80%, then the way I do the math a person is good for 5 drinks a night!!!!!!!!!!

Finally another report that makes sense.

17 beers a day keep prostate cancer away

Theoretically, anyway, especially when taken with pizza with tomato sauce

Dr. Richard N. Atkins, CEO of the National Prostate Cancer Coalition, said the experiments are encouraging "It's every man's dream to hear that beer and pizza can prevent cancer," he said. "However, the 17 beers and four large pizzas needed to get enough xanthohumol and lycopene to help prevent prostate cancer is unfortunately not advised."

Atkins noted that drinking 17 beers a day can lead to alcoholism and cirrhosis of the liver, and overdoing it on pizza can lead to obesity and other health problems.

OK this is simple - drink coffee (see previous entry) to combat cirrhosis and drink beer and eat pizza to prevent cancer!!!!!!!!!!!

Get huge — the life you save may be your own

440-pounder’s bulk credited with sparing his life when car runs over him

A 440-pound German man discovered that being overweight can be good for your health — if you get run over by a car.

Police said the extra body mass prevented the 30-year-old man from suffering potentially fatal injuries when a Volkswagen Polo drove over him after he braked suddenly on his bicycle at a crossroads and fell off in front of the car.

See, and everyone else is so worried about our weight. It saved this guy's life!!!!!!!!!!

Man Eats 47 Cheese Sandwiches in 10 Minutes

LAS VEGAS - There's a rising star on the competitive eating circuit. California man Joey Chestnut downed 47 grilled cheese sandwiches in ten minutes this weekend in Las Vegas to set a world record. That's eleven more sandwiches than the old record of 36.

Hmm, I wonder if the government will get involved with this guy's eating habits. I wonder if the sandwiches were grilled using butter?

Eat hearty, I'm off to get a Twinkie!!
