It Makes No Cents

There are certain things I believe in: Truth, Justice and the American way.

Sometimes though, the American way mystifies me. Case in point:

Pennies May Soon Be a Thing of the Past

Should the U.S. go penniless?

The U.S. Mint in May said pennies now cost more than 1 cent to make due to rising prices for zinc and copper. During its early penny-making years, the Mint was so short on copper that it accepted copper utensils, nails and scrap from the public to melt down for the coins. Wartime demand for copper prompted the Mint to alter the composition of the penny in the early 1940s. Coins made of zinc-plated steel were in use for a while, and salvaged ammunition shells also made their way into the minting process. Rising copper prices in the 1970s prompted the government to experiment with alternative metals, including aluminum and bronze-clad steel. A decision to proceed with aluminum pennies was halted after 1.5 million of the coins had been produced but before they were released to the public.

So the government cannot make a penny for a penny any longer and this from the same government that pays $400.00 for a hammer.

In the 1970s aluminum pennies were halted after 1.5 million of the coins had been produced but before they were released to the public. Why were they halted and why were they not released to the public?

The nickel is next and then the dime and so on and so on. We will round up in dollars! The government makes money on other coins that can subsidize the penny. For instance, a quarter may only cost a nickel to make and sell with 20 cents profit which would cover the penny.

The government wants to train us much like the oil companies have over the years. Ask anyone what they paid for gas at last fill up and they will say for instance I paid $3.03 a gallon. Well, no they didn't, go buy exactly one gallon of gas and you will pay $3.04 a gallon. You see, we are so trained we don't even include the 9/10. If you think rounding doesn't cost you, multiply the 1/10 of a cent you have rounded up and multiply that times the amount of gas you have purchased in your lifetime and tell me it doesn't add up.

There are other problems that need to be considered as well.

I live in Nevada and we have penny slots here. Take away the penny and hotels may have to close.

Now penny candy will be a nickel.

Our language will have to change. No longer will we be able to say,

"A penny saved is a penny earned."

"My 2 cents worth."

"Where does the other penny go."

"That's the penny that dropped."

"Pennies from Heaven."

"A penny for your thoughts?"

"Bad penny."

"Penny wise, pound foolish."

"In for a penny, in for a pound."

"Penny postcard."

"Worth every penny."

"A penny spent is a penny enjoyed."

"Don't have a penny to my name."

"Penny stock."

"Penny arcade."

"Penniless."

With the pennies gone, what will become of the penny loafer shoes? Will they go the way of the Yugo?

Pennies for wishing wells?

And there are other uses as well.

'Penny Jar' Stops Bullet Fired at NYC Home

NEW YORK - A tenant leader who has campaigned against drug dealers in her neighborhood says a "penny jar" prevented a bullet that hit her apartment from doing more damage. She found a bullet hole in her front door. "The heavy-duty penny jar in my front hallway stopped the bullet from going all the way through" the apartment.

Now there is another value of the penny!!!!!

Speaking of money

Woman gets to keep ring, but beau’s taken
Judge awards bride-to-be $40K band after she dumps married man

NEW YORK - If a man proposes marriage, but turns out to be married to someone else, who gets to keep the $40,000 dollar ring? A Manhattan judge has ruled that the woman gets it, even if she’s the one who broke off the engagement. The case involves a South Carolina woman Dana Parker and a New York man Brian Callahan who met on the Internet. Parker dumped Callahan after finding evidence that he was married and was also trolling for women online. Callahan then sued to get the ring back.

The evils of the Internet, and by the way, I bet he is saving his pennies now!!!!

Well, that's my 2 cents worth. Oh yeah, rounded that's my nickel's worth for today!!!!

Save the penny!!!!!!!!!
