Dog Days and Bad Days

OK, so the Friday afternoon Vet visit with my dog Zoe' went a lot better than expected as far as how she behaved.

I was not happy to find she has a thyroid problem.

I thought I would be brave and take Zoe' drug free but requested help from Vic.

I muzzled her up anyway but I don't know if it was her not feeling good or Vic being there but she was a different dog.

Hopefully the pills will get her back to normal.

Of course, then I probably will have to go back to giving her drugs for Vet visits but if she is healthy, that will be OK!!

Fact: Contrary to popular belief, dogs do not sweat by salivating. They sweat through the pads of their feet.

That may explain all the footprints in the examining room when Zoe' was there!!

How about the following Dog:

Dog Does 'Heimlich' on Choking Owner

CALVERT, Md. -- Toby, a 2-year-old golden retriever, saw his owner choking on a piece of fruit and began jumping up and down on the woman's chest. The dog 's owner believes the dog was trying to perform the Heimlich maneuver and saved her life.

Debbie Parkhurst, 45, of Calvert told the Cecil Whig she was eating an apple at her home Friday when a piece lodged in her throat. She attempted to perform the Heimlich maneuver on herself but it didn't work. After she began beating on her chest, she said Toby noticed and got involved.

"The next think I know, Toby's up on his hind feet and he's got his front paws on my shoulders," she recalled. "He pushed me to the ground, and once I was on my back, he began jumping up and down on my chest."

That's when the apple dislodged and Toby started licking her face to keep her from passing out, she said.

"I literally have pawprint-shaped bruises on my chest. I'm still a little hoarse, but otherwise, I'm OK," Parkhurst said.

"The doctor said I probably wouldn't be here without Toby," said Parkhurst, a jewelry artist. "I keep looking at him and saying 'You're amazing.'"

It's no wonder dogs are man's and woman's best friends.

I think a treat for the dog is in order rather than telling the dog it is amazing!!

Fact: Most pet owners (94 percent) say their pet makes them smile more than once a day.

I bet Debbie Parkhurst will agree with that fact!!!!!!

Fact: An estimated 1 million dogs in the United States have been named the primary beneficiary in their owner's will.

I bet Debbie Parkhurst will consider that!!!!

Switching to a sad story, Las Vegas has lost another landmark:

Sunday was the last day for the Hill Top House Restaurant after 45 years in business.

The restaurant was built as a ranch house in 1954 and converted into a dinner house in 1961.

They had a salad bar with crisp, fresh lettuce, a variety of dressings, cold cuts and cheeses, plus sides of corn relish, carrot slaw, marinated beans and potato salad. Steaks, chicken and frogs' legs were the specialties.

This was old style at its best, as was their food. I am not a huge chicken fan, but their fried chicken was the best of anyplace I have eaten.

This place was friendly not fancy, the food was good as were the portions, and the presentation was normal, not foo foo.

Thanks for the memories!!!

That's all for today with the exception of an alert. Tomorrow I have a guest author so you can see how someone with talent can write!!
