Bad, Good, and Of Course

How bad is this city government that they have refused to pay their land payment on two lots that house the county courthouse and jail.

This bill is over 200 years old and they have not made one payment. It's not like the one payment a year would break the city!!

Pa. County May Owe Rent of 200 Roses

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Franklin County may be centuries behind in rent on two of its public buildings - having accumulated a debt of more than 200 roses.

County officials were reminded of the debt after the recent death of Chambersburg resident John F. George, a descendant of community founder Benjamin Chambers.

Benjamin Chambers first established the local rose rent tradition by requiring three churches that settled in Chambersburg to give his family one flower a year in return for land. The congregations consistently have paid the annual floral rent.

But George had said for years that a deed transferring two lots for use as a county courthouse and jail also required the county to pay his family one rose a year. The deed, dating to 1784, is kept in the courthouse and can be viewed on microfilm.

The issue never gained much traction with county officials.

George always said he "was grateful the Chambersburg churches were so faithful to pay their rent every year but was disappointed the county refused to do so and owed the family over 200 roses," the Rev. Bill Harter, pastor of the Presbyterian Church of Falling Spring, said during a memorial service on Saturday for George, who died July 15.

Rose rent traditions date back to 15th-century Britain.

Shameful, just shameful, big government at work!!

Who says we need illegals because there are not enough workers to handle menial jobs such as lawn mowing?

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - One lawn care company is showing a little skin to boost business.

The women of Tiger Time Lawn Care offer to mow customers' lawns dressed in bikinis - a service that attracts more attention to the ladies than the lawns.

"Oh yeah, they honk and yell. They can do everything you can imagine," said employee Blair Beckman, 21.

Beckman said the extra attention is expected, but she looks on the bright side.

"You get the attention but you also get a tan, which I need," Beckman said.

Owner Lee Cathey said the bikini service makes mowing the lawn a lot more interesting, although the fee is slightly higher.

"The yards definitely get more attention when there's a bikini on the lawn," Cathey said. Some customers sit in lawn chairs and have a beer while watching, he said.

The three-month-old company is looking for a way to expand the service through the end of summer.

"In the fall we'll go pick up leaves in the bikinis if need be," Cathey said.

Cathey said there hasn't been any interest in a male version of the bikini lawn cut.

Customers sit in lawn chairs and have a beer while watching. Well, yeah if you want the job done right you have to watch every move the worker does to make sure it is done right. Lawn care is expensive so you have to keep a real eye out.

Based on the next story, good thing the employers in the last story were drinking beer:

Study: Diet Soda Linked to Heart Risks

BOSTON - People who drank more than one diet soda each day developed the same risks for heart disease as those who downed sugary regular soda, suggests a large but inconclusive study.

The results surprised the researchers who expected to see a difference between regular and diet soda drinkers. It could be, they suggest, that even no-calorie sweet drinks increase the craving for more sweets, and that people who indulge in sodas probably have less healthy diets overall.

Wag's law: "If it has real sugar, it is real good!!!" Nuff said.

May this day be a good day your way!!
