Some Of This, Some Of That

The new recession dollar bill

New buzz phrase - "Don't need it, don't buy it."

Here's a news flash:

Michael Jackson Swears Off Women

The (former)King of Pop has never been a ladies man. Obviously, Jacko forgot and the former pop star is swearing off women while he concentrates on reviving his career.

A source close to Jackson has been quoted confirming recent rumors that the singer has also barred his children from the recording studio.

Michael has banned his kids from the recording studio. He realizes this is very important and doesn't want any distractions.

My question is, has he banned other kids from his studio? That is where one needs to be concerned.

Give me a break:

Restaurants seek to block NYC calories-on-menus regulation

NEW YORK (AP) - An organization of state restaurants asked a federal appeals court Tuesday to stop the city from immediately implementing a requirement that some chain restaurants post calories on menus.

The widely expected request came after U.S. District Judge Richard Holwell ruled last week that the city requirement was constitutional and might help the city achieve its goal of reducing obesity.

The restaurants also argued that city government was violating the First Amendment by forcing its view on restaurant patrons - that calories are the only nutritional criterion that diners need to consider.

So why is it we, the American people, think restaurants need this added burden with serving food?

I wonder how many of us that cook at home can post the calories on our menus?

Also why is it the city's business if I am overweight?

Now with that said, I think it is OK for prisons to feed inmates any way they want to.

As Beretta used to say "If you can't do the time, don't do the crime."

300-pound accused killer in US complains jail doesn't feed him enough

BENTONVILLE, Arkansas (AP) - An inmate awaiting trial on a murder charge is suing the county, complaining he has lost more than 100 pounds because of the jailhouse menu.

According to the suit, Laswell weighed 413 pounds when he was jailed in September. Police say he and a co-defendant fatally beat and stabbed a man, then set his home on fire.

"On several occasions I have started to do some exercising and my vision went blurry and I felt like I was going to pass out," Laswell wrote in his complaint. "About an hour after each meal my stomach starts to hurt and growl. I feel hungry again."

But Laswell then goes on to complain that he undertakes little vigorous activity.

"If we are in a small pod all day (and) do next to nothing for physical exercise, we should not lose weight," the suit says. "The only reason we lost weight in here is because we are literally being starved to death."

The suit also asks that the county be ordered to serve hot meals. The jail has served only cold food for years.

The meals, provided through Aramark Correctional Institution Services, average 3,000 calories a day, jail Capt. Hunter Petray told The Morning News.

A typical Western diet consists of 2,000 to 3,000 calories a day.

Since he is in a small pod all day and does next to nothing for physical exercise, maybe they should put him on a chain gang so he has an excuse for losing weight.

Everyone needs a little love from above:

Conan the Chihuahua prays with his owner and chief priest Joei Yoshikuni during a morning prayer at the Shuri-Kannondo temple in Okinawa, Japan.

Sit, Stay, Pray

Conan reportedly goes through the routine -- sitting up on his hind legs and putting his front paws together before the altar -- without prompting each day before morning and evening meals. "Word has spread, and we are getting a lot more tourists," Yoshikuni said.

Yoshikuni said he wants to teach Conan how to meditate -- sort of. "Basically, I am just trying to get him to sit still while I meditate," he explained. "It's not like we can make him cross his legs."

There you go, the world according to Wag.
