Expert: Chute wasn't from D.B. Cooper

VANCOUVER, Wash.- The man who packed the parachutes used by an airplane hijacker in 1971 says there's no way that a chute that was found recently was one of the ones he packed.

Earl Cossey says the parachute found about a month ago by some children along a dirt road was made of silk and dates back to around 1945. He says the chutes used by the man known as D.B. Cooper when he jumped out of a jet headed for Mexico in November 1971 were made of nylon.

Cooper's fate has been the subject of speculation and a major motion picture, with many experts insisting he could not have survived the jump after bailing out near the Oregon line.

I was really hoping it was the real deal as I still believe he got away with it.

When confronted by police he said he felt "emotionally guilty."
