Animals - You Gotta Love Them

Let's hear it for the animals today.

Life-saving dog, cat honored for heroic acts

Pets feted by ASPCA after rescuing their masters

NEW YORK - When Debbie Parkhurst choked on a piece of apple at her Maryland home, her dog jumped in, landing hard on her chest and forcing the morsel to pop out of her throat.

When the Keesling family of Indiana was about to be overcome by carbon monoxide, their cat clawed at wife Cathy's hair until she woke up and called for help.

For their nick-of-time acts, Toby, a 2 1/2-year-old golden retriever, and Winnie, a gray-eyed American shorthair, were named Dog and Cat of the Year by the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

I hope they got a treat rather than a medal!!

Speaking of dogs:

If you get to thinkin' you're a person of some influence, try orderin' somebody else's dog around.

Speaking of cats:

Lettin' the cat outta the bag is a whole lot easier than puttin' it back in.

Polly wants to get the heck out of here!

Peanut the parrot imitates fire alarm, saves family, owner says

MUNCIE, Ind. - A noisy parrot that likes to imitate sounds helped save a man and his son from a house fire by mocking a smoke alarm, the bird's owner says.

Shannon Conwell, 33, said he and his 9-year-old son fell asleep on the couch while watching a movie. They awoke about 3 a.m. Friday to find their home on fire after hearing the family's Amazon parrot, Peanut, imitating a fire alarm.

"He was really screaming his head off," Conwell said.

Well who wouldn't scream his head off as the flames were headed for his tail feathers?

Hunter recovering after being shot by dog

Pooch accidentally stepped on owner's shotgun, Iowa official says

DES MOINES, Iowa - A hunter is recovering after he was shot in the leg at close range by his dog, who stepped on his shotgun and tripped the trigger, an official said.

James Harris, 37, of Tama, was hit in the calf Saturday, the opening day of pheasant season, said Alan Foster, a spokesman with the Iowa Department of Natural Resources.

“He had surgery and is doing pretty well,” he said. “He took between 100-120 pellets in about a 4-inch circle to his calf.”

The dog has contacted what is left of the OJ defense team asking them to defend him against attempted murder charges.

The dog claims it was a pheasant that shot Mr. Harris.

The defense team says if the paw on the trigger doesn't fit you must acquit!!

The dog has vowed that, if acquitted, he will spend the rest of his life hunting down the real pheasant that did the shooting!!

Woman: Pet-sitter overfed my potbellied pig!

Owner claims abuse after pig gained 100 pounds in nine months

WINONA, Minnesota - A woman wants abuse charges filed against an acquaintance who was pet-sitting for her potbellied pig and allowed the animal to get fat.

Michelle Schmitz said her pig, Alaina Templeton, weighed 50 pounds (22.7 kilograms) when Schmitz left her with a co-worker who offered to care for the animal in February, when Schmitz went on medical leave to recover from ankle surgeries.

Nine months later, the pig weighed 150 pounds (68 kilograms) and it took veterinarians 4 1/2 hours to surgically remove the animal's collar, the Winona Daily News reported. Officers are investigating whether Alaina was abused by the sitter's neglect and overfeeding.

OK I'm going to go out on a limb here. I've been to three county fairs and a goat rope and I have never seen a skinny pig.

I believe potbellied kinda means overweight.

pot·bel·ly (pŏt'bĕl'ē)
n., pl. -lies.

A protruding abdominal region.

potbelly - slang for a paunch

potbelly - having rounded, bulging sides

potbelly - Having a protuberant belly

potbelly - a large overhanging belly.

Did the owner ever check on her prized pig? Obviously not.

If a pig didn't like to eat they wouldn't call it a pig now would they.

A tip for all the city folk out there:

When you wallow with pigs, expect to get dirty.

When you give pigs food, they will eat and gain weight!!!
