Middle School Offers Birth Control

PORTLAND, Maine - Pupils at a city middle school will be able to get birth control pills and patches at their student health center after the local school board approved the proposal Wednesday evening.



King Middle School in Portland, Maine, will soon offer birth control pills and patches through its student health care center. Students need parental permission to access the center but not for birth control specifically.

The plan, offered by city health officials, makes King Middle School the first middle school in Maine to make a full range of contraception available to students in grades 6 through 8, according to the state Department of Health and Human Services.

There are no national figures on how many middle schools, where most students range in age from 11 to 13, provide such services.

Boy does this bring back memories. I remember it like it was yesterday.

I was 5 when I was taught about the facts of life.

She was an older woman of 6.

I was standing there oh so innocent when she swayed up to me blinking her eyes as women do, flashing a big smile and then she said in such a sweet voice "Hi Wag."

I was mesmerized at that very moment by one of the cutest young girls I had ever seen picking me out of the crowd to walk up to and say hi.

Shyly I said, "uh, uh, Hi Sally."

"Wag," she said, "I really like you and was wondering if I can I hold your big stick?"

Oh boy was I excited as I nervously answered, "sh..sh..sure Sally, here go ahead and grab it and be sure and grip it tight."

She took a hold of my big stick and ran across the playground laughing.

That is when I got my life lesson. I paid five cents for that Big Stick Popsicle and didn't even get a taste of it before she took it from me.

Women!!!

Sometimes you get, and sometimes you get got.

It's best to be a bottle baby!!
