What's In A Word?

Yo readers,

OK, I gave you all a little time off for the holidays and am happy to say you all came back for my January 2nd post.

As you may recall in my Jan 2nd post one of my statements was "Hey, maybe a Lone Ranger mask. Hi-Yo Silver Away."

Well, some may have known, some may have been afraid to point it out, but hundreds upon hundreds of emails came in to point out what appeared to be a mistake.

Everyone said it should read Hi-Ho Silver Away.

Wrong!! As I pointed out to all of them, Hi-Yo is what the Lone Ranger said.

The usual opening announcement was "A fiery horse with the speed of light, a cloud of dust, and a hearty 'Hi-yo Silver!' The Lone Ranger!"

Whenever the Ranger mounts Silver he shouts, "Hi-yo, Silver, away!"

Lone never used the word Ho due to the fact Ho would have confused Silver because it sounded like Whoa.

Silver could stop on a dime which if he did unexpectedly, Lone would go flying over his head.

There are several sites that will verify Yo is correct.

One person suggested to me the word Yo was not even used until rappers used it.

Not true, among others that came before rappers was the Yo-Yo itself.

Ed McMahon on the Johnny Carson show used Hi-Yo frequently.

Remember Sylvester Stallone in Rocky saying "Yo Adrienne" (1976)

Think back to a time when Pirates were on the open seas. If you can't think back that far, rent Pirates of the Caribbean starring Johnny Depp.

Pirates were reported as chanting Yo-Ho-Ho and a bottle of Rum.

What one must understand is pirates were out at sea for extended periods of time and when in port the only thing on their mind was rum and women.

That is at least one bottle of Rum and two "loose" women hence Ho Ho!!

Sorry, I got off track, now back to my hero the Lone Ranger.

"Return with us now to those thrilling days of yesteryear...."

The Lone Ranger Creed

"I believe.....

That to have a friend, a man must be one.

That all men are created equal and that everyone has within himself the power to make this a better world.

That God put the firewood there, but that every man must gather and light it himself.

In being prepared physically, mentally, and morally to fight when necessary for that which is right.

That a man should make the most of what equipment he has.

That 'this government of the people, by the people, and for the people' shall live always.

That men should live by the rule of what is best for the greatest number.

That sooner or later...somewhere...somehow...we must settle with the world and make payment for what we have taken.

That all things change but truth, and that truth alone, lives on forever.

In my Creator, my country, my fellow man."

Words to live by, my friends, words to live by.
Return with me tomorrow for more of less!!!
